National minimum wage rates from 1 October 2016

The annual increase to the national minimum wage comes into effect on 1 October 2016.

From 1 October 2016 the following new rates take effect:
  • Standard adult rate (for workers aged 21 or over) £6.95 up from £6.70.
  • Development rate (for workers aged between 18 and 20) £5.55 up from £5.30.
  • Young workers rate (for workers aged under 18 but above the compulsory school age) £4.00 up from £3.87.
  • Apprenticeship rate (for apprentices under 19 of age or those aged 19 and over but in the first year of their apprenticeship) £3.40 up from £3.30.
  • Accomodation offset rises to £6.00 from £5.35.
